Rix leads UK vehicle fleet to GoGreen
Rix Petroleum was recognised as leading the UK biofuel sector at the prestigious "Green Fleet Awards" in London last week .
Rix's significant innovation in production and marketing of biodiesel has lead to them being named as Alternative Fuel Producer of the Year by a panel of independent judges, beating off competition from many of the industry's best known names.
Rix has displayed significant innovation with its GoGreen fuel card which allows fleet drivers to achieve the benefits of buying a biofuel blend even if they fill up with conventional diesel.
Importantly the biofuel portion of the fuel is made from recycled vegetable oil here in the UK making it one of the greenest and most sustainable alternative fuels available.
Managing Director Rory Clarke explains: "The biofuels industry has struggled to make biofuels readily available, either in bulk or at the pumps, to fleet operators. However the GoGreen fuel card is a concept that allows a typical small fleet using 120,000 litres of diesel a year to register a carbon saving of 13 tonnes over conventional diesel usage but using the largest fuel card network in the UK with over 1300 outlets. For every litre of conventional diesel that a card holder buys, we replace that litre in the national diesel network with a litre of Rix Bioblend5, a five percent biodiesel blend which can be used interchangeably with fossil diesel. Every 3 months we will send the customer a certificate detailing their carbon saving. The more people who use the GoGreen card the more BioBlend5 we will introduce to the national network and the more carbon saving that will be made".
Clarke hopes that the Green Fleet Award will focus the fleet industry on the fact that it is possible to make real and significant contributions to carbon savings now, not at some point in the distant future. "The GoGreen card initiative requires fleet users and managers to make next to no change in their behaviour and yet deliver significant and verifiable carbon savings to contribute to their environmental bottom line."
The Green Fleet Award was presented by TV personality Quentin Wilson at a lavish ceremony at Canary Wharf.
